Why Your Content Isn’t Attracting Anyone (It’s Not a Content Problem)

Uncategorized

Back in 2017, I learned about attract, nurture, and convert and completely missed the strategy behind it.

I understood the concept. I knew I needed to attract people. I even grew to about 5,000 followers on Twitter doing short punchy posts. But I had zero strategy behind the platform I was on and no idea how to turn any of those people into clients.

That’s exactly what I want to break down for you today.

Because if your content isn’t attracting anyone, it’s probably not a content problem. It’s a placement problem.

Here’s what that means and what to do about it.

The Part of Attraction Marketing Nobody Actually Explains

Attraction marketing gets talked about like it’s a mindset thing. Like if you just show up authentically and post consistently, the right people will find you.

And while consistency matters, there’s a strategy behind it that most people skip entirely.

The strategy is this: you have to know where your people are already hanging out and show up there with content designed specifically to attract them. Not just any content. Not your deepest stories or your most educational carousels. Content that does one specific thing at one specific stage of the journey.

That is attraction marketing. And it lives on a specific platform.

Step 1: Find Your Top of Funnel Platform

Your top of funnel platform, also called your attract platform, is the place where strangers find you. People who have never heard of you, never followed you, and are not in your world yet.

Not every platform does this equally. Some platforms are discovery platforms, meaning new eyes find you there regularly. Others are relationship platforms, meaning you go deeper with people who already know you. Knowing which is which changes everything about how you use them.

The question to ask yourself is: where am I getting the most reach from people who don’t already know me?

For me, that’s Threads. On average I get about 100,000 to 220,000 views a month there. My highest month hit 1.2 million. Compare that to Instagram where I average around 10,000 to 20,000 views a month. That tells me exactly where strangers are finding me.

Now, I’ll keep it real. That 1.2 million month came from some controversial posts and I ended up with the wrong eyeballs. So yes, volume matters, but you want to make sure you are posting in a way that attracts the right people, not just any people.

For you it could be TikTok, Facebook, even X. But wherever you are getting the most reach from people who do not know you yet, that is your attract platform. That is where you post for volume and visibility.

Step 2: What You Post There Is Different

Your attraction content is not the same as your nurture content.

On your attract platform, your content does one thing. It makes someone curious enough to follow you or click on your profile. That is it. You are not converting them here. You are not going deep with them here. You are making them think she gets me, I need to follow her.

Here is what works for attraction content:

Relatable moments. The “oh my gosh same” posts. The ones where someone feels seen and thinks I need to follow her. These are the moments that make a stranger feel like you already know them.

Bold opinions and hot takes. Something you see in your niche that you agree or disagree with. A good example right now is the yapping challenge. If you are a coach or social media strategist you could post “the yapping challenge isn’t for everyone” and that is a hot take that will stop the right person mid-scroll.

Pattern interrupting questions. Something that makes them stop and think. A question tied to something they have been trying or struggling with pulls them in because they are curious where you are going with it.

Short punchy value. A small taste of what you do. Not a lot, just enough to make them want more and follow you to get it.

What does not work on your attract platform is long educational carousels, deep personal stories, or heavy pitching. Save that for your nurture platform. On your attract platform people just want to get a quick feel for who you are and decide if they want to follow you.

And if you are posting all of this but your message is not clear, people will watch and keep scrolling. They will not know you are for them. That is where having the right words makes everything click.

Step 3: Consistency Is About Your Message, Not the Algorithm

Your attract platform is where the right people find you. But when they land on your profile, there needs to be enough there for them to want to stay.

Think of it like a storefront. If someone walks by and the shelves are empty or nothing speaks to them, they keep walking. You want people to land on your page and think she is for me.

That means showing up consistently with content that speaks directly to your people. Not just posting to post. Posting with a clear message behind it.

This is not about going viral. It is about being findable and followable when the right person shows up looking for someone like you.

And if you do not know the exact words to say to make your person stop and think she gets me, that is the real problem. Not the algorithm. Not the platform. The words.

The Real Reason Your Content Isn’t Converting

You have probably heard that you need to post more. Or try a new format. Or get on a new platform.

But if you are already posting consistently and still not attracting the right people, the issue is not your output. It is your message.

When your messaging is off, even the best content strategy falls flat. People scroll past because nothing you say makes them feel like you are talking directly to them. They cannot self-identify as your person. So they keep scrolling.

That is why figuring out the exact language your people use is the actual foundation of an attraction strategy that works.
