The Hidden Reason Your DM Sales feel so scary to do: It Starts with Your Audience

Business Strategies, DM Sales

This is such a crazy, yet important, topic I want to share with you today. I know it seems not related to selling or leads or even making business simple, but trust me: it’s genuinely related, I promise!

Before I fixed this, I used to feel sick before every connection.

I had this underlying anxiety because I was guessing what my leads needed.

My message was too broad, and because of that, I was talking to everyone, which meant I was talking to no one.

Do you ever write content that takes you hours to create, and no one likes it, comments, or even cares about what you say?

It kind of starts to feel like you are invisible in a sea of so much content.

You’re putting in the work, you’re showing up, but the engagement is lame.

What happened is your content didn’t speak to your ideal clients, and they had no idea that you’re the one to help them.

Your message became too broad and ended up becoming just another post that got immediately scrolled past.

I noticed that this is the first line- below- where you allude to talking about DMs. I would bring it up earlier in the blog post and hit on that situation they may happen to find themselves in daily, so they don’t feel a disconnect by what you’ve talked about so far versus what they wanted from the title.

One of the key moments that changed my entire business was writing directly to my audience.

I began to ask them questions and dug deep to gain understanding.

This began my journey to a clear message, a message that brought peace to how I was selling online.

Today, I’m going to help you see the power in knowing your audience and creating everything from content to offers, that’s perfectly aligned to them.

Your Audience Foundation

When you’re creating content, you feel gross.

It doesn’t feel aligned, something’s off.

Day in and day out, you feel as though you’re forcing yourself to write, to create for them because it doesn’t feel like it’s for them.

You struggle in your DMs to connect, and when you finally try to sell your offer, you feel that sticky, yucky, salesman feeling.

That’s your inner self telling you that you are out of alignment.

Your message cannot be for everyone.

It must be for one person.

I know you’ve heard it a million and one times: Who are they? Where do they live? Income? Struggles? Joys? etc.

These are questions you are supposed to ask yourself about your target audience, and to be honest, this is where I started when I needed to find my audience.

The problem was that I had absolutely no idea what my people struggled with. And I mean truly struggle with.

I don’t mean a “stay-at-home mom wanting to make sales.”

That was so basic. I needed to know the emotional weight of that struggle.

It wasn’t until I did what I never imagined: I stopped and talked to HER.

You’ve been doing business quite some time now, but you don’t know why you’re not getting traction.

And truly, it boils down to not knowing your people’s truest pain points.

I want you to stop and take a moment to ask yourself these deep questions to see if you’re missing something crucial with your audience.

These questions dive past the surface level and get right to the solution:

The Questions to Find Your True Audience

  1. If I could remove one single source of frustration from your life right now, what would it be? (This reveals the most urgent pain point.)
  2. What’s the emotional weight of your biggest struggle now? How does it make you feel physically? (Anxiety, shame, exhaustion?)
  3. What problem keeps you up at night, and what does the solution look like in your dream life?
  4. If you had a magic wand, what would you instantly want to accomplish right now? (This tells you exactly what offer they are willing to pay for today.)

Creating a Message That Sells

I say this with love, but what you create, whether an offer, freebie, or content, it’s not about you.

Well, not all about you. Your audience wants to feel like you see them and their frustrations.

Your target audience’s biggest desire right now is to find someone who “gets them.”

This may seem like a simple thing, but truthfully speaking, when you understand your audience, you start to feel aligned with them.

And, I’m telling you, this is where your confidence in selling in the DMs begins.

Your belief in your offer skyrockets and you start to pitch yourself to different podcasts, network with others so you can grow externally because you have created confidence in yourself so much everyone needs to hear about your solution.

The problem you know your audience is facing can be solved with your offer because you spent time hearing your audience, so you pivoted with confidence now ready to grow your business.

When you begin writing and creating with your audience in mind, you won’t be chasing people anymore.

They’ll begin coming to you.

This one move, from “spinning your wheels in your business” to knowing your business is taking off, changes how you show up day-in, day-out.

Become a Magnet Online

You become a magnet online, different than the rest.

Take time to research the language your audience is using by finding online where your people hang out the most, and read what they’re struggling with and how they describe it.

Are they using the word “stuck,” “overwhelmed,” or “clueless”?

You need to use that language. Use it today by calling them out in your content: “You’re struggling with (pain point) and it’s keeping you from (desire).”

This will begin to call out people, your people, because they will finally feel seen.

This is the simplest way to make your messaging fire and start confidently selling in the DMs.

The Peace of Clarity

Knowing who you serve, how you serve, and what makes them feel seen brings a peace which, until you have it, I can’t describe it.

Truthfully, this is why my clients get booked out and double the previous year’s income with ease.

They know their audience and know what pain they’re dealing with.

True confidence, together with clarity, helps them in every aspect of business, but more with their content.

And the content becomes the bridge to their sales in DMs or discovery calls.

They don’t have that “yucky” feeling anymore because they know they are offering a solution to their people’s problem.

That’s why I’m doing a $7 class on how to sell in the DMs with confidence.

No more gross, yucky salesman feelings, just pure confidence in yourself and your offers.

It’s time to stop feeling alone and start feeling empowered.
